Every year, prisoners in the Netherlands and Dutch people imprisoned abroad are sent an encouraging Easter greeting card, as part of PKN’s Easter greetings campaign. The Lent campaign organised by PKN and Kerk in Actie allows for Protestant congregations throughout Netherlands to organise for tens of thousands of Easter cards to be bought, written and sent.

This year, detainees in the women’s prison in Nieuwersluis designed the cover image of the card during meetings in an invaluable pastoral workshop led by justice chaplain Harma Zuidersma, who said: “Detainees are often not lucky in life. By talking together, they come into contact – sometimes for the first time in their lives – with connection, safety and personal attention. That is why the community within the walls is so important.”
