Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand (PCANZ) Moderator Right Rev Hamish Galloway has released a message for The Season of Creation, an annual ecumenical celebration of prayer and action for our common home. Observed from September 1 to October 4, this year’s theme is “Listening to the Voice of Creation”, with the symbol of the burning bush (Exodus 3:1-12).

These voices of suffering range from leaders in the Pacific lamenting rising sea levels, those in Bangladesh and Sydney weeping over homes submerged by floods, to residents in Spain, Portugal and France crying out for help to fight wildfires, wrote the PCANZ Moderator. As such, he urged individuals and communities to take action through prayer, sustainability projects, and advocacy during this Season. This can take the form of hosting ecumenical prayer gatherings, clean-up projects, and leading or participating in ongoing campaigns such as the fossil fuel divestment movement. Finally, Rt Rev. Galloway highlighted that at successive assemblies, PCANZ has committed to support actions of caring for creation such as Eco Church.
