This homily by CWM General Secretary Rev Dr Collin Cowan pays tribute to Ms Lynette Williams, a faithful servant of God in UCJCI, and serves an inspiration to “do what we can”.

Proverbs 31: 10-31 speaks of a virtuous woman and Sis Lynette Williams embodied these words.

Sis Lynette was an active, dedicated and committed member of the Lowe River United Church in Jamaica and Cayman Islands (UCJCI). She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour of her life at the age of sixteen. Her mantra was “One day at a time, Sweet Jesus. That’s all I’m asking of you”.

Sis Lynette served as an Elder, Church School Superintendent and Teacher and an Evangelism Committee member.

She was richly blessed with a very melodious voice, hence she was a member of the church’s choir for over sixty years. She was also a member of the Joint Heritage Choir and the Women’s Fellowship. She was a true worshipper who loved to play the tambourine.

Sis Lynette was a retired Teacher who taught for many years at the Lowe River All Age School (now Primary and Junior High). With her deep love for children and her desire to eliminate illiteracy from a tender age she started a Basic School on her verandah, on her retirement. The school was relocated to old Lowe River All Age School building on the grounds of the Lowe River Basic School. She served both as Principal and Teacher for many years. Sis Williams also worked with JAMAL where she taught both young and older members of her community to attain literacy.

Sis Lynette had a passion for sewing and growing to the needy in and around her community. She sewed for men, women and children, with or without money, up to the time of her passing.

She was a mentor, friend, counsellor, confidante, guardian and caregiver who lived a full and unselfish life in service to her Master.

She transitioned this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 six days after her 99th birthday. She’s gone on to Glory, singing with the angels. May her soul rest in peace and light perpetual shine on her.
